Rabies virions. Rhabdoviridae, Rhabdovirus. Extremely dangerous, often transmitted by the bite of an infected animal (dog or bat). Virion has a classic bullet shape and is covered by short glycoprotein spikes (shown in red). The spikes are anchored into the lipid membrane (viral envelope). Helical nucleoprotein contains single-stranded negative-sense RNA (-ssRNA).
